Police reach out to communities
The National, Wednesday April 30th, 2014
POLICE in East New Britain want to bridge the gap with communities to enhance support and participation.
Provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie has been visiting communities around the province along with his officers.
On Monday, he attended an awareness at Tinganalom village, with a good turnout of people.
The meeting was chaired by the local ward member and attended by the LLG president.
Some homebrew making implements were handed to police during the meeting and awareness was carried out by OIC Community Policing Senior Sergeant Kone and Wagambie.
Wagambie stressed the importance of the community working in partnership with police and people taking ownership of law and order issues. The crowd was told to report serious matters such as sex crimes and other indictable offences to police.
Wagambie said minor offences could be sorted in the village using conflict resolution, mediation and alternative justice.
“I will continue to move around in the communities to bridge the gap between police and the community.
“This is very important because police need community support and participation to enable a safer community,” Wagambie said.
