Police remind motorists to follow traffic rules
The National, Monday July 13th, 2015
PEOPLE must learn to obey and respect traffic rules to avoid causing road congestion, National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa.
Bawa was reacting to vehicle owners in Port Moresby who ignored the designated parking areas for those going to watch Pacific Games events and parked their vehicles on roadsides.
“There are security officers employed by the National Capital District Commission to look after your vehicles at designated parking areas, so that you can get on the shuttle buses to the Games venues,” he said. “Many have been seen parking along streets leading to the Games venues or on the side of the main roads. You don’t want to start blaming others if something goes wrong. People must learn to obey what has been set for them.
“I am re-emphasising the use of the designated areas.
“There are security measures in place. Follow simple rules to avoid traffic offences.”
Bawa stressed the restriction on the priority lane. The lanes will only be used by athletes, officials and police vehicles. This is to avoid congestion for the athletes to get the venues.
“I am appealing to the general public to follow the right lane which is allocated for their use,” he said.
Bawa said it was only a temporary arrangement for the Games.
