POLICE in Madang have resumed their patrols along the Transgogol area after two men were killed and 48 houses burnt in retaliation last week.
The payback was for killing and houses burnt at Garim and the Mambu Market villages last Sunday.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said it was a payback killing so police officers were told to patrol the area frequently to make sure there was no more trouble or killing.
He said many lives were lost and those who were murdered were chopped into pieces.
“Police had been patrolling that area when vehicles were available but didn’t go back after the vehicles were taken away,” he said.
“We will now continue to patrol that area because we have vehicles.”
Supt Rubiang said police officers met with the respective villagers last weekend and warned them not to take the law into their own hands but allow police to investigate and deal with the suspects.
He said Transgogol was one of the areas in Madang that had reported such cases and that was not the first time.
He said the leaders should try to look into the reason for the killings to try to bring peace there.

  • People of this areas are more fearsome, dangerous and have more tribal fights then the highlanders. Who said only highlanders have tribal fights or murder people? Our people still have a long way to go before we can all live in peace and harmony.

    • Fact: the Madang people are very peaceful and hospitable, its drifters and others that cause trouble… this has been the case since the Government abolished the vagrancy act in the 1984…hopefully JM Government is revisiting this act???

  • Kukurai is out of this world. Those killings in the Transgogol area are between villagers themselves based on their traditional beliefs and ways of doing things. No outsiders settled within that area so what’s he talking about?

  • Killings everywhere everyday, criminal activities on the rise and corruption (misuse of public funds) at it’s best, this is not the right time to prematurely declare PNG a Christian Country.
If the government is really serious about it’s Slogans then it should come up with some strict strategies to completely eradicate these issues or else we are making a mockery of our selvesm
