Police retirement

Letters

I READ with great interest about Acting Police Commissioner Francis Tokura’s statement as appeared in The National on Friday (Aug 23) that although police officers who have reached the retirement age of 60 will not be retrenched and will be allowed to continue to work because the department doesn’t have enough young officers.
They will be only retrenched under medical grounds.
The Police Minister further elaborated that there would not be any more recruits because of lack of funding.
Back in July, Bryan Kramer wrote to former Police Commissioner Gari Baki informing him and his two deputies Raphael Huafolo and Jim Andrews who were given marching orders because both have also reached the retirement age.
If the three of the former senior police officers were not reappointed because of their age, then it is of great interest and concern why the three officers were not reappointed although it is the prerogative of Police minister to appoint new commissioner, the reason stated is prejudiced.
Can Gari Baki, Raphael Huafolo and Jim Andrews seek court interpretation?
The reason for their termination based on retirement age is all prejudiced because their statement in the media now says it otherwise.
