GORDON police will continue to clear off illegal vendors from shop fronts and bus stops in the area, a senior police officer says.
Gordon police station commander Insp Mark Mosinakave said his officers would carry out the operation on a daily basis to ensure the place was safe and free.
Mosinakave said people were advised prior to the construction of the new Gordon market to form associations to acquire space at the market and those selling on the street were doing so illegally.
He said selling goods on the street contributed to traffic congestion and allowed petty crimes to take place.
“The ones doing their marketing outside are the ones neglecting advice from the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and even myself,” he said.
“They are the ignorant ones that attracts opportunists who are a threat to commuters that is why we are trying our best to get rid of them.”
Mosinakave said he needed the cooperation of the public and sellers as his men could not be at the areas at all times. He said youths in Gordon were volunteering and assisting police to maintain law and order there, and the public could also assist by making civil arrests.
He said under constitution the public had the power to make a civil arrest.
