Police, security firm may answer for man’s death

 THE death of a young Morobe Patrol Post man could have serious legal repercussions for Lae police and a Lae-based security firm.

Reports claim employees of Executive Security Services Ltd (ESS) are behind a savage assault that led to the death of Ericson Sens, 24, of Dona village, Morobe Patrol Post.

The assault is alleged to have occurred between 3 and 4pm last Tuesday at a home in Suko Block, at Igam junction.

It is claimed the victim has tried to stop an argument between a friend and an ESS employee when a fight, ensued resulting in Sens suffering serious injuries.

The deceased was reported at the Tensiti police station, charged with unlawful entry on a private premise and detained at Town police cell on Tuesday night. 

At the time, retired police intelligence Sgt James Salun, who was at the scene of the fight, said he had insisted that Sens be taken to hospital but was ignored by duty officers.

A nurse at Lae International Hospital said yesterday Sens was taken for treatment at 11pm on Friday.

After treatment, Sens was taken to the Angau Hospital Intensive Care Unit but was pronounced dead at 3.30am last Saturday.

Lae police CID officer-in-charge Yaing Birum has ordered a post-mortem examination to be conducted and police will await that report.
