Central police are looking for a woman who allegedly killed her three-month-old daughter and threw the body into a ditch near the Gulf-Central border at Apanaipi.
Provincial police commander John Maru said the woman from Iokea, Gulf, allegedly had an argument with her husband at around 9am last Thursday.
She then allegedly tied a napkin around the child’s neck and suffocated her.
Maru said the child’s corpse was then dumped in a nearby stream on the border and left there for seven days.
Maru said the child was a three-month-old female.
He said villagers discovered the body in a stream after noticing a foul smell in the area.
Meanwhile,  a Chinese businessman and his driver were injured in a robbery on the Magi Highway at the Yano rubber estate at Moreguina, Central, yesterday.
Maru said a substantial amount of money was stolen.
He said a gas gun was also snatched from a police officer who escorted the businessman to Yano.
He said the expatriate was a rubber buyer in the area and was held up when he went there to buy rubber from locals.
Maru said police were investigating both cases.
