Police serve files on Kokoda rape suspects

POLICE have completed and served files on two youths allegedly involved in an attack on a tourist couple along the Kokoda Track in January.
Toksy Jacob and his co-accused, a minor, were charged with armed robbery and unlawfully wounding a British man and his American girlfriend.
Both were also charged with raping the woman during the alleged incident.
Police alleged that the couple were robbed of K6000 in cash and items.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Ambrose Giluwe told The National that the magistrate handling the matter was unavailable yesterday and had adjourned the case to July 21.
Jacob’s lawyer is expected to make submissions in response to the three charges when the matter returns to court.
Jacob was at the Central Committal Court in Waigani yesterday.
His lawyer was to have made submissions on his behalf.
Jacob’s co-accused, also from Efogi village in Sogeri, Central, will appear at a Juvenile Court in Port Moresby on July 13.
Both defendants are out on bail.
