Police, soldiers fight report ready
The National, Friday February 20th, 2015
Investigations into a fight between police and soldiers in Port Moresby in December have been completed and were to be presented to Acting Deputy Commissioner Operations Jim Andrews yesterday.
Acting director for crimes, Chief Supt Peter Guinness said reports were to have reached Andrews yesterday.
The fight led to roadblocks, chaos and looting in the city.
Andrews is expected to call a meeting with PNG Defence Force top brass to deliberate on issues and decide on a course of action.
“We have done our part and will present it to Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Operations Jim Andrews,” Guinness said yesterday.
PNGDF commander Brig-Gen Gilbert Toropo said the defence force’s part of the investigation was complete as well.
He said police officers did not use the right approach on army officers on the night of the brawl.
He said both investigation reports would be merged so that parties could absorb the reports and reach a conclusion.
