POLICE and soldiers have launched an awareness drive to tell settlers in Mt Hagen to stop being involved in homebrew production, marijuana and petty crimes.
“Let us all try to change and transform Mt Hagen into peaceful communities,” Chief Insp Tim Koroda said.
The drive began last Friday at Kaunsel Camp where criminal activities are rife.
“We hope that the awareness drive will change those involved for the better,” he said.
Koroda urged the settlers to change their mindset and earn an honest living.
“The awareness drive has covered Tarangau and we are now moving to Kaunsel Camp and will go as far as Tee School. We will cover the eight council wards in the city and then go to the rural areas,” he said.
Koroda told the settlers that police officers and soldiers were not their enemies “but are here to protect you and maintain law and order”.
