Police station gets a facelift

THE Police Commissioner’s modernisation programme is taking shape in Western Highlands.
Provincial police commander Superintendent Martin Lakari said they started with the construction of the new double-storey female and juvenile cells at the Mt Hagen police station.
“This will change the look of the provincial police station and I’m looking forward for more of this taking place,” Lakari said.
He said the funding came from the police department.
He said police were involved in a city beautification programme.
“Police are now helping the city authority clean up the place as voluntary work,” Lakari said.
He believes the modernisation programme will boost the morale of police officers.
Lakari said changes to the work environment and infrastructure would help boost productivity.
“The programme is raising morale and I’m happy to see my province is moving with it,” Lakari said.
He said police officers should not have any excuse for non-performance or laziness.
Foot patrols are being stepped up to deal with petty thefts.
He said the city beautification programme was impacting on the look of the city.
“You can hardly see any rubbish or people selling betel nuts in the city. I want all us to work together as I’m driving the commissioner’s modernisation programme to change this province.”
