POLICE strength in Markham district has been boosted by the arrival of 10 officers who recently graduated from the Bomana Police College.

They were originally posted to Morobe but since there was no accommodation available for them in  Lae, provincial police commander Chief Superintendent Kaiglo Ambane arranged with Markham MP Paul Isikiel and District Development Authority chairman John Orobot to transfer them to the Mutzing government station in Markham.

The district is situated along the Highlands Highway and one of the corridors of economic activities in the Highlands and Momase regions.

Criminal activities along this section of the highway are common.

The two female and eight male officers arrived on Friday.

The Mutzing government station is about a two-hour drive up the Markham plains from Lae.

Orobot, Chief Inspector David Warap and regional training officer Senior Inspector Paul Bai welcomed the 10 officers to their new posting.

Warap said the current police manpower needed strengthening.

An induction ceremony will be held next week followed by a parade at Mutzing police station, Warap said.
