LAE Metro Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr says petty crimes such as bag-snatching were prominent in the Kamkumung area these days.
He said the area was a betelnut trading centre.
“The area is dominated by people from  the Highlands region.
“They occupy the blocks at the back of the market place and within the vicinity of the market,” Wagambie said.
“I have instructed Omili police at Kamkumung to work with the market authorities to ensure that this place is policed.
“The criminals tend to run into the crowds and disappear into the blocks.
“When police pursue them into the settlements, there is hardly any cooperation from the communities.”
Wagambie said those involved in the trading of betel nuts and other produce at Kamkumung market should cooperate  with police to maintain order and peace at the place.
“Many people had stopped  going to BumbuMarket for safety reasons.”
