Police to arrest students who fight in public places

POLICE will start arresting students who act like criminals and fight in public places, Gerehu Police Station commander Hanson Tokally says.
Tokally said this after a fight broke out among Gerehu Secondary School students in front of their school gate yesterday morning.
The police operation team at the traffic light to monitor public motor vehicles (PMVs) intervened and stopped the fight.
“We will bring the matter to the school administration and talk with them and if the students are not listening and continue to misbehave outside the school premises and create disorder, then we will arrest them like criminals and not students,” Tokally said.
He also said a route nine PMV driver was arrested at the Gerehu bus stop yesterday for not following the instruction of police patrol officers who were there to monitor the flow of PMV buses in the morning.
“It is an ongoing issue where bus drivers and their crew are not following road and traffic rules by completing their route from Gerehu to Boroko or Gordon,” he said.
These buses are also taking the back road to Down Town, especially route 9 which is wrong, Tokally said.
Extra bus fares are charged from Gerehu to Waigani then to Boroko, he said.
“Students are affected by the extra fares and also time is consumed for working-class people.”
