POLICE will escort four ballot boxes from Wasu to the counting centre in Sialum, Morobe today.
This is in reaction to speculation of a possible hijacking of the boxes.
Tewai-Siassi returning officer Ecky Yaku said from Sialum the four boxes were from the four polling teams who conducted polling in the Wasu LLG area.
“I don’t anticipate any problems .
“But it’s always better to be safe than sorry,” he said.
Yaku said polling in the electorate had been completed and the polling teams were returning with the ballot boxes to the Sialum district headquarters.
He said five boxes were still to arrive from the Siassi Islands and nine from the Sialum LLG area.
Yaku said no major problems were encountered during polling in the electorate.
“Except for common roll hiccups faced by two polling teams on Siassi Island polling was incident-free in the electorate,” he said.
