Police to file affidavits on man’s death

MADANG police station commander Insp Willie Mio, provincial commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang and other respondents have been ordered by the National Court to provide affidavits by Feb 26 in relation to Jerry Yareng’s death while in police custody.
According to directions by Justice Vergil Narokobi, which was set last Wednesday, five respondents are to file affidavits into the National Court Registry in Madang by the 26th.
Other directions include:

  • THE matter return for directions hearing on March 10;
  • THE court enquire into the non-appearance of the chief executive officer of the Modilon Hospital; and
  • NO member of the police force intimidate, harass or threaten any family members of Yareng and the suspects arrested Jerry Yareng to participate in the matter.

The other respondents include the officer-in-charge of the internal investigations division in Madang Sgt Alex Solwo, the Ombudsman Commission, Steven Asivo on behalf of Yareng’s family and suspects arrested with Yareng.
