A POLICE officer has been questioned over the alleged sex assault of a teenage girl in Lae.
Lae metropolitan commader Supt Iven Lakatani confirmed yesterday that police had arrested the officer.
He said he expected to give more details today.
But a police source said the girl had been living with the officer since she travelled to Lae last year from Eastern Highlands to look for her relatives.
The girl aged between 15 and 17 was taken in by the officer who promised to look after her. She told police that the officer had assaulted her.
In a separate case on Monday evening, two groups of men allegedly assaulted a teenage girl from Kerowagi, Chimbu, residing in Lae.
The girl told police that a group of men walked into her family home at around 4pm and threatened her family with guns and knives. They dragged her away and sexually assaulted her.
She said the men dropped her off at a spot where she was picked up by another group who promised to assist.
But they took turns in assaulting her until 8pm. She was later dropped off near her home before the men fled.
