Police training programme to begin after renovations

TRAINING programmes for police in the Northern Command will resume once the facilities at Lae’s Bumbu barracks are completed, regional training officer Chief Inspector Paul Bai says.
Bai said training was greatly needed in the command and once work at the training facilities were complete, programmes would resume.
The facilities include two accommodation units for course participants, classrooms, office space with additional white and brown goods to be added.
The whole maintenance project was funded under the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to assist Royal PNG Constabulary (PNGRC) under their partnership programme.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Northern Command Peter Guinness said since the partnership started, there have been many positive outcomes.
“The continuity of this partnership is an opportunity for RPNGC and has to be strengthened through mutual understanding to provide policing services,” he said during a tour of the renovated buildings.
“We really appreciate their (AFP) contributions in many aspects towards equipping the RPNGC and this will continue as long as the programme remains.”
Guinness was impressed with renovations.
The accommodation for participants were built under the modernisation programme in 2013 but were abandoned due to funding constraints.
The AFP came on board to complete those projects to help RPNGC in boosting trainings for officers in the command.
Officers in the Northern Command, which include Lae, Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands, will now be able undergo training in their policing work.
