WEST New Britain Police Commander Supt Jim Namora has called on Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited (MVIL) and other authorities to address transport issues in the province.

Namora said this in Kimbe last weekend following recent car accidents in WNB last month.

He said the unfortunate deaths of two people at two different logging camps in the Kandrian and Gloucester districts needed immediate attention from MVIL, the transport department and the regulatory arm of the forestry logging sector.

Namora said the first fatality was reported at the Silimate log pond on February 19 and the second at the Savalu log pond on February 27.

According to police investigations, the deaths resulted from vehicles and equipment that were defective, unregistered and uninsured.

Namora said the operators also did not have licences.

He said most equipment at the log ponds that were brought in did not meet government regulations.

Namora said MVIL and the transport department should target these logging camps to generate internal revenues.

“Most of the equipment do not have registration labels and were not road worthy,” he said.
