Police warn: Celebrate responsibly
By REBECCA KUKU
INDEPENDENCE anniversary police operations will begin today and citizens are encouraged to celebrate responsibly, ACP operations Donald Yamasombi says.
He said operations would start at 8am and continue till Tuesday.
“Police will be setting up random roadblocks around the city and will also be carrying out zone patrols.
“There is no alcohol ban, but I encourage those who will be drinking to drink responsibly,” he said.
“The way I see it, alcohol is not the issue, the issue is how we consume it and how we behave.”
Yamasombi said police would also be taking part in the raising and lowering of the flag at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Monday.
“I encourage everyone to celebrate in the true spirit of independence and to be responsible and mindful of what we do.”
Yamasombi said that the same would apply across the country.
“Provincial police commanders and police stations commanders have already been briefed to set up teams to carry out community patrols.” NCD Metropolitan Supt Perou N’dranou said extra manpower from the dog unit and the mobile force would join his team.
Meanwhile, the new National Capital District and Central ACP, Anthony Wagambie Jr will be taking up office on Tuesday.
