POLICE in Port Moresby believe a threat to shoot and kill  drivers who flash their lights is a hoax.

The threat is reportedly in the form of an email circulated  to people working in Port Moresby.

The police media unit has responded to the reported email, saying:  “It has come to the attention of the police that an unsigned letter is being circulated through the internet (email) about a gang who, as part of its initiation, expects its members to shoot and kill drivers (and passengers with them) who flash their lights at them.

“At this point in time, the police have reason to believe this to be a hoax. We have not received any such reports/threats as yet.

“We are not aware of any DARE programme that we are undertaking and would like the author of the letter, Nick Potgieter of Chubb Electronic Security, to contact police immediately if he has any facts and figures on the matter he has raised.

“He can either contact us on one the telephone numbers listed below or National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa on telephone 324 4200 / 7100 0363 or email [email protected]
