Businesses in outstations and districts in Madang have been warned of increasing armed robberies in the area.
Madang police station commander Vincent Isanda issued the warning after holdups in outstations last week.
Isanda said more than K21,000 was taken from the Kulkul coconut plantation last Thursday. An undisclosed amount of cash was robbed from a Chinese retail store in the Saidor government station on Sunday.
He said there was only one police officer at the station who could not do much.
Isanda said the retail shops in the six districts should take extra precautions because rascals in town were now using dinghies to travel long distances to carry out robberies away from the police.
