EAST Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli is calling on people who are travelling to Wewak from Port Moresby to follow instructions that are in place from the provincial Covid-19 team.
He said since two new cases had been reported in Port Moresby, the provincial Covid-19 team would continue to do their checks at the airport such as getting temperature readings of inbound passengers from Port Moresby.
He said everyone needed to respect the police and health officers at Boram Airport and follow instructions.
“It is a pandemic and we must make sure we do our best to protect the people of East Sepik so everyone travelling must cooperate with the officers,” he said.
“Everyone knows the saying that ‘prevention is better than cure’ so if the passengers are asked to wear masks while going out of the airport or asked to get their temperature readings they must comply.”
Beli said he was not happy with some passengers who argued with members of the Covid-19 team who were at the airport to check the passengers.
Beli said the police would arrest people who obstructed officers from doing their duty at the airport.
