Police will investigate killing

A SPECIAL taskforce team is in Porgera leading investigations into the shooting of the late police const Timot Kavanamur on Jan 26.
Deputy Comm of Police (DCP), Operations, Donald Yamasombi said investigations continued in identifying the person who shot the policeman. He said suspects were still on the run and community leaders and the people of the surrounding communities were asked to help police bring in the culprits and let the law to deal with them.
Const Kavanamur, attached to the air tactical unit, was shot dead in the Porgera mine site while on duty with his colleagues. His body was flown back to Port Moresby on Jan 27, and was at one of the funeral homes.
DCP Yamasobi said another policeman killed in Madang would be repatriated to his village any time this week for burial. He said after the burial of Const Franko Horaki, police would investigate the burning down of houses and damage that had been done after the policeman was killed.
He said policemen needed to do the burial of their colleague before they helped with the investigation.
