Police will use own resources, ACP says
The National, Monday February 8th, 2016
POLICE will not get outside assistance to expedite investigations into the shooting of late Thomas Kela Yama, Northern region Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Guinness says.
Guinness said this last week after “some people” wanted to provide “assistance” to police to speed up investigations into Yama’s death.
Guinness told The National that it was a police case and police would use its own resources to conduct the investigation.
Guinness said he did not want the outcome of the investigation to be influenced by any person or group.
The investigation will go ahead,” he said.
“We (police) are waiting for our accounts to be opened before we send an officer to Moresby to do ballistic and other tests on some of the evidence.
“We were told that our (public) accounts would be opened on January, 04, but I do not know the delay.
He said it was not an easy case where one can go and just pick up the suspect and lock him up.
Meanwhile, Guinness said the case of Bugandi student Tobias Hombie who died was concluded with the alleged shooter, a policeman, being charged and taken to court.
“I cannot comment further on this matter,” he said.
“It is with the court so I will leave it like this.”
Hombie, 19, from Afawia village, Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik, and a friend were shot on May, 27, 2013, at Eriku, Lae following a school demonstration.
