CENTRAL police are yet to charge five suspects apprehended last Sunday for allegedly robbing K200,000 from BSP in Alotau.
Provincial police commander Sibron Papoto, pictured, told The National that the five were still in police custody at 15-Mile police station outside Port Moresby awaiting the recovery of two others who were shot by police in Port Moresby.
“We have already put together an investigation team to look into that case but we are awaiting the two injured suspects to recover from their wounds before we can formally charge them all,” he said.
Papoto said the two who were shot were discharged from the Port Moresby General Hospital and had joined their alleged accomplices at the station.
He said the suspects were also alleged to have been involved in a string of other major robberies in the region, including one in Lae, the Alotau police shooting case and a major robbery in Kupiano.
“The initial robbery took place on June 18 when the alleged suspects took a BSP safe containing more that K200,000 into Central province and removed the money,” Papoto said.
