POLICE are yet to identify the body of a man found near the Transgogol Junction, in Madang, in the early hours of last Saturday.

Snr Const Gunter Baso of the Police Traffic Department in Madang, said it had taken them almost a week to try to identify the body.

Baso said the man was believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, and from a coastal province.

He said the body was discovered by Madang Teachers’ College deputy principal administration Stephen Potek, who alerted police.

“The deceased had a very deep cut on his right eye and across his forehead,” Baso said.

Baso said he had a cut on his nose and scratches on both his arms and legs and the body was lying between the Garim Logging Company and Transgogol Junction.

“We still can’t say if he was hit by a vehicle or killed and dumped there,” Baso said.

He said there were no tyre marks to indicate it was a car accident.

Baso said they would be conducting a post-mortem examination after detectives completed their investigation.  He appealed to people with information on the identity of the deceased to come forward.
