A POLICEMAN attached to the special services division (SSD) with the mobile squad 11 in Wabag, Enga, was shot and injured by a gunman at Mulitaga en route to the Porgera mine site on Monday.
SSD director Chief Insp Julius Tasion confirmed that the injured policeman was Constable Absolom Akwi of Morobe.
Insp Tasion said Akwi was with his colleagues in a vehicle travelling up to the mine when they were attacked and sustained the injury on his right eye.
He said Akwi was rushed to the mine site hospital where he was stabilised and treated.
Insp Tasion said Akwi was recovering from his injuries and the suspect was still on the run.
“We must respect the policemen and women and not attack them with weapons. We have lost many policemen, killed by our own countrymen and that is not good.”
Tasion said people needed to respect the police because they were there to protect them and property.
He thanked the policemen and women from his directorate for serving the force in challenging circumstances.

  • It is appalling and sickening to hear of continuous attack on Police personnel by criminal elements in and around Pogera and the surrounds.

When are these criminals going to learn to respect law enforcement agencies and the hard working men and women in line of performing their duties?

Those responsible cannot continue to think that they are untouchables ad above the law. They must be brought to justice and held accountable of their actions.

  • Please People respect our policemen as they are doing everything possible to help the citizen of this difficult times. Tumbuna pasin lus ting ting move on with the rest of the countryman to civilisation.

Stop been old age tribal fighting forever in the highlands!! tired of that news

  • You were shot by opportunists setting up road block to rob people. God will speed up your recovery bro…get well soon

  • All this killings and high powered weapons can be traced back to politicians and businessman of their provinces. Police need to do thorough investigations and cut out the engine rather than dealing with the effects all the time.

  • Just too many unnecessary attacks on police up that way..
Just pull out and see what happens.
Traditionally these people have their ways to solve conflicts. Sometimes you may not be able to teach old dogs new tricks.

  • Simply pull out and let those animals slain themselves….
Innocent Policemen are losing their lives among those animals.
