A POLICE officer in East Sepik has been suspended from duty for threatening a public servant with a gun.

Provincial police commander, Chief Supt Joe Poma said the officer was escorting Ambunti-Dreikikir MP Ezekiel Anisi.

The two had gone to the home of East Sepik local level government adviser Thaddeus Ulapapik at Kreer Heights to sort out some differences on the appointment of some LLG officers.

He said the officer then threatened Ulapapik.

Poma said a detective was investigating the case.

He said police officers providing escorts for MPs should conduct themselves with professionalism.

Poma said the suspension of the officer should serve as a warning to others assigned to escort MPs to  seek his approval beforehand.

He said police officers should not act as bodyguards for MPs but only provide escort.

Poma said MPs from the province should be allowed to interact freely with their people.
