A MAPRIK response unit policeman’s legs were smashed and his arm injured in a vehicle accident on Friday, according to police.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli alleged the policeman while under the influence of alcohol drove a police vehicle from Maprik and was driving outside town when he was involved in the accident.
Supt Beli claimed the policeman and two civilians were drinking and driving and hit a coconut tree.
He said the policeman was injured and was rushed to the Boram hospital for treatment.
“I am very disappointed with the policeman who defied my orders during the parade a week ago.
“I told them to discipline themselves and one of that is not to misuse police-issued vehicles.
I have prepared the charges for the policeman and I will serve it to him when he is discharged from the hospital.”
