The National, Wednesday July 17th, 2013

On Sunday, June 16, at the Kinim station, an armed robbery, lasting about 40 minutes, took place at a Chinese shop known as Greenfern Trading, at about 3pm.

The police station was only metres away but the policemen were  mere spectators until two policemen had the idea to drive a 10-seater vehicle towards the scene.

Three shots were fired at the policemen who took cover while the robbers decamped in a stolen speedboat.

The robbers, who were armed with a pistol, stole cash and store goods

The storeowner and his employees were tied up and badly beaten.

The Karkar policemen were given K200 each for their assistance on that incident.

The PPC Madang and Sumkar MP were alerted about the Karkar policemen not having firearms of any kind since 2010 but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
