Policy not reaching provinces

THE regional consultation workshop on the Office of Censorship (OOC) policy review has revealed that the implementation of the policy is not reaching the provinces, an official says.
Acting chief censor Jim Abani said that at a Southern consultation held in Alotau, Milne Bay, last week.
He said representatives from the communities and organisations operating in the provinces highlighted that the policy needed to be developed in such a way that could be easily implemented at the provincial level as well.
Abani said only the central agencies were implementing the policies, however, there had to be improved networking, collaboration, capacity building and sharing of information and resources.
He said it was an important revelation and strategies would be developed to ensure that the central agencies worked in collaboration with the provinces to achieve the goals set for the next five years.
“We are winding down the regional consultations and we are seeing a lot of improvements,” he said.
“A lot of information has been brought to us by the agencies.
“The provincial representatives made presentations on how their organisation’s functions can align with ours. Sustainable partnership with relevant agencies is one of our pillars and it’s good to see that partner agencies are ready to work with us.”
