Political drama may affect next election

Letters

I say this as a concerned observer to those who want to contest in the 2022 national election.
The recent parliamentary drama is like a hide-and-seek game to avoid the constitutional requirements on a motion vote of no confidence to buy time for a shaky government.
That is unhealthy for a parliamentary democracy.
If all avenues sought by the Opposition side to recall parliament before April fail, its likely to have some serious consequences.
If the Government is still a minority by then and happens to be voted out, the life of the current parliament may be extended beyond six months.
This is the price those intending candidates for 2022 national election have to pay.
The Government and Opposition should be a lot more responsible and converge on the floor of Parliament to trash out everything to uphold PNG’s parliamentary democracy.
