THE Electoral Commission has revealed new steps it will take to prepare the country for the general election.
Commissioner Andrew Trawen believed there was still room for improvement in order to deliver a credible and acceptable 2012 election to the people.
In its undertaking, 22 electoral assistants have been appointed by the commission to assist provincial electoral managers to prepare for the election.
The assistants were recognised for their work with the commission and signed their contracts last Friday after a two-day workshop in Port Moresby.
In addition:
lThe commission will use family order listing electoral rolls for Manus and Highlands region;
lRegional coordinators to expedite election issues;
lA continued retention of regional and provincial accountants;
lA hire of vehicles policy to be created to engage registered IPA hire car companies for the election; and
lA security agreement to be signed between the commission and the Royal PNG Constabulary.
Trawen said preparation for the election was well underway with the electoral roll for all provinces under stable routine. Five provinces have already completed their roll field data work, data input and their books printed and currently checked in the provinces.
Work on Momase, Southern and New Guinea Island regions have almost been completed while the Highlands region is taking a while because of the family order listing concept that requires a process to be followed before data input and the printing of books.
