EASTERN Highlands Governor Julie Soso has allocated K250,000 to support the Electoral Commission in conducting supplementary elections for five local level governments which had been declared failed.

Soso told Minister for Inter-Government Relations Leo Dion during his visit to Eastern Highlands this week that she would like the five LLGs to have elected presidents and ward member.

She said the priority was starting service delivery at the ward and LLG levels.

“I have allocated K250,000 to support the Electoral Commission speed up the supplementary elections for the five LLGs,” she said.

The five LLGs are Goroka Urban, Minomalo, Goroka Rural, Lower Bena and Gahuku.

Dion said the Government had no immediate funding to conduct supplementary elections on LLGs declared failed last year.

Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen declared some LLG elections in the Highlands failed after reports of illegal practices during polling last year.
