ACTING public curator Julius Pololi has been stood down following serious allegations of misappropriation and official corruption against him.
Justice Minister Kerenga Kua said yesterday that Pololi was charged with serious offences of misappropriation and official corruption relating to the performance of the functional roles and responsibilities of the office.
Kua said Pololi’s suspension on Feb 1 was to enable police investigations into the charges to be conducted fairly and expeditiously.
He also said the appointment of deputy public curator for Southern region Theodore Bukikin as acting public curator and official trustee was effective from Feb 1.
Kua noted that the office of the public curator was a “difficult office”.
“It actually destroys a lot of people. You can never make all claimants happy. For that reason alone there will always be a dissenting voice. And that dissenting voice sometimes will lead to a situation like this which Pololi is going through,” he said.
“By the very nature of the work that this office does administrating deceased estates, there are numerous claimants that come through the door of this office. As a result when one is attended to, the other is not going to be happy.
“In the interest of transparency and making sure we make the people who receive the benefits of the services that had been rendered by this office sure and comforted that there is nothing wrong in this office.”
