POLITICS must be about the future not the past Kandep MP and Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party leader Don Polye says.
Polye said politics must become an honourable profession of honesty and professionalism, grounded on servicing the needs of the people.
“My role as a leader is to rebuild our nation. It is to put together a team, a government that is professional, modern and competent,” he said.
Speaking to graduates at IEA College of TAFE’s eighth graduation in Port Moresby last Friday, he said they were leaders in their own right because of their achievements.
Polye said people had so much to do to rebuild the nation’s institutions to earn the trust and respect of the public.
He said students should be standard-bearers for what was good in government, good for the people and good for the future of the country.
“Equally important are our actions and methods used to address these issues because wrong actions can destroy good motives and desired results,” Polye said.
He told graduates their role was to hold him and his fellow politicians accountable for their policies, conduct and performance.
He said his role was to ensure that graduates could enter the workforce with hope and optimism for the future.
“My role is to pursue integrity honesty and transparency in government and to provide the sensible economic management that we so desperately need,” he said.
Polye said he had a vision to serve his people and meet their needs when he graduated.
“I had a dream see Papua New Guinea rise to national greatness through the thrift, hard work and patriotism of its people,” he said.
