THE national government will introduce key strategies in the 2014 budget to incur less deficit and improve service delivery, Treasury Minister Don Polye said.

Polye, who attended the World Bank meetings in Washington DC, United States, said there were a lot of good ideas he learnt from discussions and presentations.

He plans to discuss them with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and cabinet during the 2014 budget preparation.

Polye attended the two-day world economic conference for government ministers where the world economy and best policy approaches for management were discussed.

Two of the key areas were:

l Developing and maintaining productive partnership with international economic institutions to create more benefits for local communities; and

l Financing budget deficits by building up level of concessional loans from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

“There are important lessons which I will share with my parliament colleagues as we prepare for the 2014 budget,” he said.
