OPPOSITION leader Don Polye says the mistakes of the PNG LNG project should not be repeated in the El-Antelope (Papua) LNG project in Gulf.

The project is in the district of his THE Party strongman and Kikori MP Mark Maipakai.

“The negotiations and the agreements or the understanding arrived at the Elk-Antelope project, under no uncertain terms, must be in the best interest of the nation,” Polye said.

“A significant portion of the socio-economic, infrastructure and business benefits for the people of Gulf province and PNG must be delivered first prior to any other project work commencing.

“For instance, health and education services, transportation services, local content and business opportunities must be delivered as compulsory requirements.

“Local people must be the major focus of the project. The local content, or the national content, should be reflected in all levels of business conducted – from micro, small-medium enterprises up to the major corporate business.”

Polye said the Opposition believed that all local businesses and micro SMEs must be mobilised and categorised into various business groupings.

“This will give the nation and investors a clear picture of which components of the Elk-Antelope (Papua) LNG Project should be reserved for Papua New Guineans,” he said.
