STUDENTS at the National Polytechnical Institute in Lae yesterday presented their second petition in a week to the administration and governing council.

The second petition touched on what students claimed to be the aggressive response by police to a fight which erupted between the family members of a staff on campus and students last Saturday.

Acting director Graham Bidang, chairman of the governing council Kila Vuivagi and Lae metropolitan commander Supt Iven Lakatani received copies of the second petition.

Bidang said the first petition presented to the administration last Thursday was generally on the running of the institution and the welfare of the students.

Student Representative Council president Jeremiah Jerrifia said they were satisfied with the response  they had received regarding the  first petition.

The school administration has vowed to address the students’ concerns, especially in improving studying and boarding conditions on campus.

The police and the council will investigate the issue raised in the second petition and respond to the students on Monday.

The students will resume classes this week while these investigations are carried out.
