POM corporate snooker cues off
The National, Wednesday 29th Febuary 2012
THE 2012 Pacific MMI Port Moresby Corporate snooker competition cued off on Monday night.
Twenty-three teams confirmed their participation with seven in A grade and eight teams each in B and C grades.
Port Moresby Billiards and Snooker Association public relations officer John Chan said the A grade teams cued off with new Car Club team Turbos hosting reigning premiers Lamana.
Lamana captained by PNG representative Arua Simoi have retained Yiannis Nicoloau, Noel Ramos and David Johns from their premiership winning team with the latest inclusion of Vani Toka, Romy Ramesh and Mari Kapi.
Turbo have veteran Howard Lahari at the helm and will be relying on Warren Gai and Johnson Zhuang for a win.
Sean McCarthy’s GAL Top Shooters took on Nelson Chanei’s Bomana Bullets sponsored by Eda Ranu while last year’s runners-up Bestcars captained by Robin Seeto faced Starland Dragons led by Roger Ng and includes PNG champion Djorne Fong.
New inclusion in A Grade JKL Thunders, were on bye. There will be five singles and two doubles in A grade with the singles being played over the best-of-three frames. Chan said the B grade matches would start on Monday night and C grade tonight.
All games will start at 6.30pm. Chan said the dress regulations should be adhered to. If proper uniforms are not ready, all players must wear a collared shirt, long dark trousers and proper footwear.
No sporting shoes, thongs or casual sandals will be allowed to be worn. All teams are given until the third game to wear the proper uniforms.
He said all score cards should be handed in at the Port Moresby Country Club after each game by the winning team.
Pacific MMI are the major sponsors for the fifth consecutive year of this premier snooker competition in PNG and supported by Street Scene.
“We thank them for their continued support and all the team sponsors and venues,” Chan said.
