Pom Vipers wary of player safety

PORT Moresby Vipers coach Leonard Tarum says they are wary of the wellbeing of their players as injured trio Stargroth Amean, Shane Nigel and Ase Boas continue to be monitored.
“The rest of the players in the team are good,” he said after their 16-10 round-four Digicel Cup win over the Mt Hagen Eagles at Sir John Guise Stadium on Sunday.
“There are no injury concerns.
“I don’t know, probably they are unlucky.
“But I think the trio underwent an intensive pre-season with the Hunters, so it’s probably affecting them.
“Boas only played for eight minutes and came off in our round-three clash with the Enga Mioks.
“Amean only played for 10 minutes in round two and came off with an injury.
“Nigel also suffered an injury in round two.
“I think they just need a good rest for now.
“After two to three weeks of rest, they should be good to go.”
The 2013 premiers are fifth on the ladder with two wins, one draw and a loss.
Tarum said his men had lacked composure in their opening four games of the season.
But he was confident that the team, boasting a number of representative and SP Hunters players, would soon find their feet in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
Meanwhile, the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League is yet to make a call on the Digicel Cup after the Government imposed a 14-day lockdown in the National Capital District in response to a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.

  • Leonard, stop boasting with your Amean, Nigel and Ase as they’re not the only guys with skills.

  • Too much self pride in Vipers team that lacks consistency in performance. When will Vipers have there own camp? When will the players stay together week in and week out? Is the funding from corporate sponsors adequate to sustain the operational expense of the time and its welfare as a whole. The integrity of our beloved Vipers Team in POM has be dropped and Team Management poor strategical management of the overall team. Its time now Vipers must have their own camp and players stay together having morning sessions and get to develop relationship and connection between them. There has to be a connection and cohesion in team. Appeal to VIPERS TEAM MANAGEMENT TO WAKE UP FROM THEIR SLUMBER!
