GATEWAY Hotel has announced a K15,000 sponsorship of Port Moresby Netball Association club Sparrows.
Company manager Leo Morgan visited the Rita Flynn Netball Courts to make the announcement in front of the club management and players on Saturday.
“We are big supporters of sports for young people and this is more special as it is for our young females,” Morgan said.
“Our support of the club allows the networking of these young girls to play a sport they love whilst giving them the opportunity to grow in discipline and also appreciate what companies like ours are trying to promote sports for a healthy lifestyle.”
The support is K10,000 in cash and K5,000 in kind, which will see the company giving away pizzas every Saturday to the most valuable players in the Sparrows’ U10, U13, U15, U17 and U21 teams.
Sparrows president Lawrence Lahari said the vouchers had become an instant hit, making the girls play extra hard in their matches.
He said the Sparrows were excited about the new partnership with Gateway Hotel.
Lahari thanked Gateway Hotel’s Morgan, Matt Cooper and Sharon Onsa for supporting the club.
Sparrows were founded in 1989.
Being its 30th season this year, the club aim is to have a gala dinner to coincide with its annual end-of-season awards.
The dinner will be held at Gateway Hotel.
The club has Naridah Adula, Courtney Abel, Margaret Eka and Louise Maliaki in the Papua New Guinea Pepes netball squad.
Lahari is also the PNG men’s Maleos coach.
