THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) has warned its clubs to meet competition requirements before the start of the season or face expulsion.
Following a short 2020 season, league administrator Meke Maino said the clubs were asked to meet the basic requirement of teams per division.
“POMRFL is a tier-affiliate league in the country,” he said.
“The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) constitution requires that all clubs must register a women’s team alongside their men’s and Under-20 sides.
“A club may be disaffiliated for not meeting constitutional requirements, the league has so far received bids from four intending clubs.
“As we approach our annual general meeting and eventually the kick-off for the 72nd season, let us work together to make the season memorable, successful and enjoyable.
“Let’s work on improving on our individual, group and collective performances from last season.”
Maino said an announcement on a club delegates’ meeting would be made soon with teams advised to begin pre-season training.
Meanwhile, POMRFL’s executives said the league was now equal to a confederate with the chairman automatically becoming the provincial chairman.
“This is under the new reforms for 2021 and the way forward,” the executives said.
“With regard to this, every POMRFL affiliate must abide by the requirements of PNGRFL.”
