I REFER to the letter “Time to reach out, POMSoX management” (The National, Dec 5) by Peter Amos Monex.
POMSoX is fully aware of the need to educate our people about the stock exchange and opportunities offered.
It was established in 1998 and commenced operations as a stock market in 1999.
In 2000, we started our education and awareness programme called “The first time investor education programme”.
It covered general information about the stock exchange, its operations, step by step process and procedures in buying and selling shares as an investment.
It covered all major aspects of the stock market including the stockbroker and their roles, opportunities, investment strategies and options, understanding prices, IPOs and, most importantly, risk.
Together with our members and stockbrokers, BSP Capital and Kina Securities, we went on a nationwide tour covering most urban provincial towns and villages, attracting landowner companies.
Over the years, we have taught and educated more than 10,000 Papua New Guineans from all walks of life, from farmers to villagers, public and private sector workers, businessmen and women, landowners and even students.
We have on numerous occasions visited and gave lectures to tertiary and secondary educational institutions and private institutions upon requests.
We are more than happy to provide lectures and seminars if requested.
We have developed and published educational materials and have established our website at www. pomsox.com.pg which has useful information for investors, companies and other stakeholders.
We are continuously developing new educational and awareness materials.
We will soon launch and publish new investor education books for intermediate and advance investors and roll out a new or higher investor education seminar programme.
Interested members of the public can contact us or visit us or our stockbrokers to get more information.
Our investor education seminars are opened to the public and those interested are welcomed to attend for a fee of K100 at a selected venue at various times in most provincial capitals.
We advertise in the dai-lies to inform the public of seminars dates and venues.
We know the stock exchange and its operations is new in our country.
We invite the writer and others to contact us.
