POPONDETTA Rugby Football League executives and Oro Governor Gary Juffa are confident of entering the PNGNRL Digicel Cup competition next year.

This was revealed by PRFL president Anko Vamage after the Southern forum recently in Port Moresby.

Vamage and his two referees association presidents Sibolo Kila and Schoolboys’ Ali Kosky confirmed that a State of Electorate Series between the Ijivitari and Sohe district would kick off in July.

The concept will be an ongoing challenge if both districts take ownership of it.

He said this was not a dream as Juffa was supporting the expression of interest and would ensure that funds were made available in 2014.

The name of the franchise will be made known by the executives to be endorsed and authorised by Juffa.

He said the concept would help select the bulk of the players from Oro, with others coming from Southern leagues.

“We will play against a Kerema side in Kerema and Aroma or Rigo at Kwikila to tap into their potential talents as well.”

Vamage said other raw talents would be scouted during the Southern Zone trials in Port Moresby.

PNGRFL Southern director Gwaibo Mairi supported Popondetta’s expression of interest to be in the PNGNRL Digicel Cup in 2014.
