THE Health Department has confirmed receiving a report on the suspension of Popondetta General Hospital chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Gunzie Gawin.
Health Secretary Pascoe Kase told The National that Gawin was suspended by the hospital board for allegations of mismanagement. “We have received a report and we have advised the board to follow proper procedures for the suspension because Gawin is a senior officer.
“The hospital operations are back to normal and everyone is back at work.
“Our lawyers are working on the case to follow the proper process. He was not charged, it was just a suspension, pending investigations and they will lay charges,” Kase said.
Gawin refused to comment on his suspension when contacted. It is understood, he has been given a week by the board to respond.
