A 34-year-old Songade villager from Ijivitari district in Northern has been arrested for the alleged murder of a woman, Evelyn Yangoli, last Wednesday in Popondetta, police says.
Provincial police commander Michael Welly told The National that the report of the case was not clear and police were investigating.
Welly said the accused allegedly used a hunting spear and speared the victim who died due to loss of blood.
He said it was not known at this stage the relationship between the victim and the suspect and the motive to kill.
In another incident, Welly said Benny Kori, of Kokoda, who lived at the Oparu compound, was allegedly assaulted by two men.
He said the reason for the assault was not known but the victim was being treated at the Popondetta General Hospital.
The accused pair are in custody.
Welly said Popondetta police also arrested a man for alleged hit-and-run.
The victim, Andrew Manson, 20, from Sakita village but living in Popondetta town, was hit as he was crossing the road.
Welly said the driver was on Killerton Road when the victim ran across the road and was hit.
“Manson was admitted at the Popondetta General Hospital and was undergoing treatment but remained in a stable condition,” he said.
