THE National Population Council, comprising of members from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM) and the National Statistical Office (NSO), met for the first time yesterday to discuss the formulation of the new national population policy for 2011-2020 and to seek endorsements for the formulation process to begin.
DNPM secretary Joseph Lelang and his staff from the policy and planning division met acting national statistician Joseph Aka, census director Kit Ronga and NSO staff to deliberate the key findings and way forward to guide the formulation of the new policy.
“The principle role of the policy is to provide a coherent and transparent picture of the significance of population issues in the overall development process,” Mr Lelang said.
