Porebada school a happy recipient

Normal, Papua

POREBADA Primary School on the outskirts of Port Moresby was treated to a surprise when Telikom Foundation Inc dropped in over the previous weekend to deliver necessary learning materials.
The school received chairs, tables and boxes of reading books and encyclopaedias, witnessed by teachers and parents who said they were grateful for what the foundation was doing.
Working closely with Rotary International and the Boroko Rotary Club, Telikom Foundation aims to deliver much needed school supplies to underprivileged schools in settlements and villages on the fringes of the city.
Telikom Foundation CEO Brian Sam said they were committed to extend help to communities which were underprivileged and could not access advanced learning materials as quickly as their colleagues right in the urban areas.
“The foundation believes in a better tomorrow for our children where today’s education is the key.”
A grateful school spokesman Dorah Pala thanked the Rotary Club and the foundation for the donation, adding that teachers were forced to stand and teach because there were no chairs to sit on.
She also said there were shortage of books and encyclopaedias for students learning and that the donations were timely.
The school, which has more than 500 students and 25 teachers, also received three wireless internet modems from the foundation.
